First Time Taiwan Pomelo Successfully Exports to Malaysia

Mitagri exported Taiwan’s first batch of pomelos to Malaysia during this year’s Mid Autumn/Moon Festival. The initial shipment of 3,600 kilograms arrived in Malaysia by sea and cleared customs smoothly on September 19th. This marks a new milestone in Taiwan pomelo’s expansion into international markets and represents significant progress in Taiwan’s export market in the Southeastern Asia region.
Taiwan pomelo is tender, juicy with a perfect balance of sweet and sour, highly favored both domestically and internationally. However, due to quarantine restrictions, many countries (including Malaysia) had not officially approved Taiwan pomelo imports. To overcome quarantine barriers and expand exports, Mitagri collaborated with Malaysia’s Pingtech Agriculture Sdn. Bhd., applying for a pomelo export permit since September 2023. After nearly two years of negotiations and meeting Malaysia’s requirements, Malaysia announced the official quarantine conditions for Taiwan pomelo imports in November 2024. This cooperation exemplifies a successful public-private international partnership.
Despite typhoon damage this year, Mitagri worked with Ruisui Township Farmer's Association to carefully select high-quality Hualien Ruisui pomelos for export to Malaysia, showcasing traceable, premium products to consumers abroad. The company aims to continue expanding agricultural exports, breaking existing borders and shaping the future of Taiwan agriculture.
