Mitagri Successfully Exports Taiwan 'Formosa' Pears to Indonesia in 2024

On September 4th, 2024, Mitagri completed the export of 300 kg of pesticide-residue-free 'Formosa' pears from Miaoli County to Jakarta, Indonesia. This initial shipment of 'Formosa' pears, destined for high-end supermarkets, marks a significant entry into the Indonesian market. Selected as a Mid-Autumn Festival gift by the Taiwanese Embassy in Indonesia, the pears surprised Indonesian officials and consumers with their delicate, juicy flavor, impressively breaking into Indonesia’s high-end market.

Taiwan's 'Formosa' pears are high-valued temperate fruits, native to Taiwan and known for their large size, delicate pulp and refreshing juicy flavor. Taiwan is the southernmost country in the Northern Hemisphere for temperate crop cultivation. Its unique climate and farmers' ever-evolving cultivation techniques result in pears with higher sweetness compared to those from other countries. Miaoli County dedicates 835 hectares to 'Formosa' pear farming, yielding about 18,000 metric tons annually. What’s more, due to the region's mountain climate with its large day-night temperature differences, the pears obtain an exquisite flavor. Mitagri Co., Ltd. carefully selects premium fruit from Miaoli, adhering to strict standards and focused on flavor, has penetrated the Indonesian high-end market, where the pears were sold out immediately upon arrival.

In 2023, Taiwan's pear exports totaled approximately 51 metric tons, with Singapore being the primary market, accounting for 68%, and varieties such as XinXing, FengShui, and XingShui pears being the main exported types. Mitagri Co., Ltd. is focused on new markets in Southeast Asian for pear exports, with Indonesia, possessing a population of over 270 million, as a significant potential market. In addition to market entry permits, Indonesia requires SGS-certified testing for pesticide residues, heavy metals, and microorganisms for imports. Therefore, this time, the Miaoli County’s Professional Agricultural cooperative-produced 'Formosa' pears have met Indonesia's standards for pesticide and food safety, successfully exporting high-standard fruit with zero detection of pesticides and heavy metals. This marks a successful entry into the Indonesian market, which is very encouraging for Taiwan. In the future, Mitagri will continue to widen export markets and explore more business opportunities.
